PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES. Think of a PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE as a PARADE! If you see a word that looks like a preposition, there had better be something behind it, like a noun, a pronoun, and all the words that modify them! Prepositions lead the parade!

PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES • Think of a PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE as a PARADE! • If you see a word that looks like a preposition, there had better be something behind it, like a noun, a pronoun, and all the words that modify them! • Prepositions lead the parade! • If there are no nouns or pronouns behind the word that looks like a preposition, it is not a preposition, it is an ADVERB!

  2. Think of it like this… • The bear walked around the yard and then went inside the cabin. AROUND the YARD CABIN INSIDE the

  3. It’s Different Than… • The bear walked around and then inside. • “around” and “inside” are adverbs modifying “walked”…there is no parade!

  4. Find the Prepositional Phrase(s) • When she went shopping this weekend, Ms. Wherry jumped over the clothing racks and ran through the store searching for bargains.

  5. Find the Prepositional Phrase(s) • She tore through the store like a mad woman until the manager made her leave as a safety precaution for the other shoppers.

  6. Find the Prepositional Phrase(s) • Ms. Wherry went to another store and tried to act calmly instead.

  7. Find the Prepositional Phrase(s) • After she left the second store with bags upon bags of clothes, Ms. Wherry returned to the first store and apologized for her ferocious behavior.

  8. Find the Prepositional Phrase(s) • As Ms. Wherry stood in front of the manager with sorrow in her eyes, he accepted her apology without hesitation and the two have been friends ever since.
