  3. Houston, home to the Astros and the Texans, is the Largest city in the great state of Texas. Austin however, home of the University of Texas, is the Capital City.

  4. Before becoming the 28th State of the United States, Texas was once its own country, The Republic of Texas

  5. Six Flags have flown over the State of Texas • Spain • France • Mexico • Republic of Texas • Confederate States of America • United States of America

  6. During Texas’s fight for Freedom from Mexico, some famous battles were fought The Alamo The Battle of San Jacinto

  7. Famous Texans Sam Houston Considered a hero in the eyes of Texans. He helped Texas win the war with Mexico. Was once the President of the Republic of Texas, and Later became the governor of Texas. Stephen F. Austin Known as the father of Texas, helped colonize Texas in the beginning.

  8. Famous Texans Lyndon B. Johnson 36th President of the United States and a Proud Texan from Johnson City, Texas. Johnson took over the oval office after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. George W. Bush 42nd and Current President of the United States. He is not originally from Texas, but he got here as soon as he could. Bush was once the Governor of the great state. He also owns a large ranch near Crawford, Texas.

  10. State Symbols State Flower, the Bluebonnet can be found growing wild in the Spring all around Texas The State Bird is the Mockingbird, known for mocking the songs of other birds

  11. State Symbols The state tree is the Pecan Tree. A tree that can live approximately 100 years and can grow to be approximately 100 feet tall. Pecan Trees produce pecans which are eatable nuts. The state plant is the Prickly PearCactus a plant that can be found all around the great state of Texas
