Annual Parent Meeting August 30, 2018 5:30 pm Mrs. Lashanda Acres, Principal Mr. Eric Alston, Assistant Principal
What is Title I? • Title I began in 1965 (ESEA) as a federal program to ensure equal opportunities for low income school districts. • Through Title I, the federal government disburses money to school districts based on the number of low-income families in each district as determined by census data. • The school uses its Title I money to supplement and improve educational programsoffered to help ALL studentsmeet state standards.
The Purpose of Title I… ….is to ensure that ALL studentshave a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and State academic assessments.
Title I programs can help. . . • Students do better in school and feel better about themselves • Teachers understand the needs and concerns of students and parents • Parents understand their child and be more involved in their child’s education GEWES is “School-Wide”Title I school
As Title I School-Wide , we… • Develop a School-Wide Plan • Conduct a needs assessment/parent survey on the types of programs we offer and use parent input to guide our decision making on ways to help students • We hold Parent workshops / presentations to train and inform parents about standards, assessments, etc… • Use Title I Money to provide ALL students with services to help them achieve academic success • We establish goals based on multiple pieces of data and determine how are we going to meet our goals through programs & interventions
How we receive Title I funds? • All schools in Meriwether County participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) • This programs allows us to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students • It eliminates the burden of collecting household applications to determine eligibility for school meal programs • Everyone benefits • Students—access to free nutritious meals for all students • Parents—no household applications means less paperwork and no worries about lunch accounts • Schools—streamlines meal service operation
How we use our Title Funds? • Instructional Materials • Computers, software, tools for students • Parental Engagement Activities • Professional Learning for staff
Establishing School Improvement Goals
How do we establish school improvement goals? • Needs Assessments • Surveys from stakeholders • Georgia Milestones • Benchmarks (pre/post tests) • C.C.R.P.I. reports
School Goals for 2017-2018 • Increase the percentage of students scoring proficient or distinguished in all GMAS tested areas by 10% on the CCRPI. • Increase by 10%, the overall number of students reading at their grade level Lexile. • Decrease the number of students discipline referrals by 10% for the 2017-2018.
C.C.R.P.I College Career Ready Performance Index
College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) • Georgia uses the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) for state accountability purposes. • The CCRPI is like a REPORT CARD for schools. • CCRPI has multiple indicators to determine a school’s performance, rather than using a single test score given at one point in time.
This report card measures the growth and achievement of each school in the following areas: • Achievement • Progress • Achievement Gap • ED/EL/ SWD performance • Exceeding the Bar • School Climate
Achievement: Points are given for: • Content mastery (subject with an EOG) • Post High School Readiness • % EL learners with positive performance • % SWD served in general education environments greater than 80% of the school day • Lexile Measures (grades 3 -5) • % students (grades 1-5) completing career awareness lessons • Attendance • Predictor for High School Graduation • % students scoring Proficient or Distinguished on Milestones
Progress • Points are awarded for EOG courses that show areas of student growth. Achievement Gap • Points are awarded for “closing the gap” from one year’s achievement to the next. • The goal of measuring achievement gap reduction is to focus on increasing the achievement of the schools’ lowest achieving students (25%)
ED / EL / SWD Performance • Points are given based on the progress and achievement on EOG assessments for • Economically Disadvantaged (ED) • English Learners (EL) • Student with Disabilities (SWD)
Exceeding the Bar Supplemental Factors that are considered: • % students in grades 3-5 earning a passing score in above grade level core classes and scoring PROFICIENT on EOG’s • % students earning a passing score in world language courses or in fine arts courses • School has earned a Georgia Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program certification • % 5th grade students with a complete career portfolio by endo f grade 5 • % teachers utilizing the Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) • School innovative practice accompanied by data supporting student achievement • School participates in a Research/Evidence based practice to facilitate school climate (PBIS).
School Climate School climate is rated by various data which include: • Teacher/Staff/Administrator/Parent/Student surveys • Student Discipline • Safe and Substance Free Learning data • Attendance • George E Washington received a rating for 2015 – 2016.
