  1. UNIT 12 : WATER SPORTS Part B : SPEAKING

  2. WARM-UP Can you name the water sports in the following pictures? Do you know any kind of water sports? Have you ever played any kind of water sports?

  3. TASK 1: Work in pairs. Look at the pictures and tell the appropriate names of these water sports.

  4. WATER POLO

  5. SWIMMING

  6. SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

  7. WATER SKIING

  8. WINDSURFING

  9. ROWING

  10. SCUBA DIVING

  12. TASK 2:Work in pairs. Look at the table and talk about each of the water sport.

  13. Model: A:- Where is water polo played? B:- It is played in a pool. A:- What equipment is required to play with? B:- A ball. A:- Is that a team or individual game? B:- Well, people often play it in a team. A:- Do you like it? B:- Yes, I think it’s a very interesting sport.

  14. Practice speaking: Take turn to give an oral report on each of thewater sports. Water polo is played in a pool. It is played with a ball and people play it in a team.

  15. Extra activity: Work in groups to do the survey on the water sports you prefer to play, state the reasons.

  16. Practice the dialogue: A:- Which water sports do you prefer to play? B:- Swimming. A:- Can you tell me the reason why? B:- Well, swimming is very interesting. It helps me keep fit and it doesn’t take much time and money. A:- How about synchronized swimming? I think it’s very interesting, too. B:- I think so. But it’s a challenging sport. We have to practice it a lot and it takes time to get used to it.

  17. TASK 3: Work in groups. Discuss the question. Which of the above sports would you prefer playing or participating in? Explain why.

  18. Example: * I prefer scuba-diving to water polo because it is adventurous. However, it can be dangerous because you can easily be attacked by sharks.
