  1. Bible Language ArtsMs. Meek Lesson # 23 The Writing Process: Fictional Narratives

  2. Narrative A narrative is a piece of writing that tells a story. Narratives can be: 1) Fictional - contain made up characters, settings, actions, problems Or 2) Personal - contain real events and people from your own life

  3. The Writing Process A story must be well thought out. Writing without a plan will result in a story that does not include all of the details that may have been thought of if planning had been done first!

  4. The Writing Process The Steps: • prewriting • drafting • revising and editing • publishing

  5. Prewriting The prewriting stage is the first stage in the writing process. This is where you create your story! Often times, this stage is called brainstorming. All of the possible characters, settings, and story events (the plot), can be considered at this stage.

  6. Prewriting Prewriting may not look like a story. It may not even have complete sentences, and could be just a bunch of thoughts. We can put those thoughts into webs: Idea MainTopic

  7. Prewriting Prewriting Prewriting You could also brainstorm in a table:

  8. Drafting This is the second stage of the writing process. In this stage, the characters, events, and ideas that were chosen in the brainstorming stage, are written down in story form. A draft is just the first try. It does not have to be perfect!

  9. Revising and Editing In the third stage, we polish our paper to make it better! Are there details we left out? Will the reader understand what you are saying? Could you use better words? Did you check for correct spelling? Do you have capital letters and end marks?

  10. Publishing In the final stage of the writing process, we publish! When all of the changes have been made to your paper, rewrite it in your neatest handwriting with no mistakes. Then, share what you wrote with others!
