  3. Guided Reading Objective: Develop and apply independent reading strategies • Develop the ability to self correct • Apply Word Works in context • Develop comprehension skills • Making Connections • Determine story meaning through self questioning. • Become a fluent, phrased, expressive reader

  4. Shared Reading Objectives: • Develop and apply a variety of strategies through teacher modeling • Develop self correction strategies • Promote the primary goal of reading: Comprehension • Integrate Science and Social Studies • Improve oral language and listening comprehension

  5. Phonics Objectives: • Associate letters with sounds • Connect written words with spoken words • Identify and use parts word parts (ed, ing, est, ly, etc.) • Build vocabulary • Use Spelling patterns in daily reading and writing.

  6. Phonics Bradley Phonics • Phonogram cards are used to reinforce letter sounds. • Dictation Making Words • Students manipulate letter cards to form words.

  7. Writing John Collin’s Writing • Structured, directed, whole class • Focus Correction Areas Journal/Independent Writing • Students respond to prompts • Apply skills learned in writing

  8. Math Everyday Mathematics • skip counting • Addition and subtraction • Counting and exchanging coins • Time to the hour and half hour • Calendar concepts • Place value • Geometry (identifying two dimensional and three dimensional shapes) • Basic fractions

  9. Science Topics • Plants • Habitats • Weather and Seasons • Balance and Motion • Solar System • Simple Structures

  10. Social Studies Topics • Community and Economics • Multicultural Stories • Map Skills • Continents and Oceans • National Holidays

  11. Homework • Students will be expected to read at least five days per week and record what they read on a Reading Log. • Students will be expected to practice reading high frequency words from the word wall. • Starting in January, each week students will be given a set of math facts to study and memorize. Knowing Math Facts automatically will allow students to complete more complicated math problems more efficiently. • Students will receive Home Links from the Everyday Math Program. They are an extension and reinforcement of the classroom lessons. • Students will receive 10-12 spelling words weekly.
