Assessment and Grading Ongoing assessments Baseline Assessments Formative: Daily, ongoing assessments/observations that are used to monitor student progress toward mastery of standards. These assessments typically assess mastery of individual standards. Summative: An assessment that is used at the end of a unit of study. Curriculum • What does Common Core mean? • Integration of language skills across the curriculum. • Lessons are planned to include mathematics, social studies, and science topics, along with reading and language arts. • The goal is to provide common, challenging, and in-depth instruction on a nationwide level. • How do we address these components of Common Core in the classroom?

BYOT in the classroom • What does BYOT mean? • How is BYOT addressed in our class? • Is each student required to have their own personal device? • What about safe surfing? • BYOT is used as a tool not a learning outcome.

Behavior at Whitlow • Whitlow ES has implemented a school wide behavior plan. • Allows for a uniform and consistent response to behavior • A pamphlet explaining this policy was provided at open house.
Excused- e-mail the office or send a note • upon returning to school. • Make up work may be given upon return.
Pre-cut cake or cupcakes • Prepackaged snacks. (i.e. fruit snacks, Rice Krispie treats.) • Served at lunch • No singing, goodie • bags, blowers, etc.
Conferences • When: October 16 & 17 • What to expect: • Written summary of your child’s progress and a plan to challenge your child • Sign up before you leave
