  4. Five Themes of Geography Location Place Human/Environment Interaction Movement Region

  5. Location Knowing where you are. Absolute location- an exact position on a globe. Grid of imaginary lines Equator, Hemispheres, Prime Meridian

  6. Location Latitude- (Parallels) imaginary lines parallel to the Equator. Longitude- (Meridians) imaginary lines running from North Pole to the South Pole. Cross to form a grid.

  7. Place What a place is like What features/characteristics make a location similar to or different from another place • Physical characteristics- land shape, plants, animals, climate • Characteristics of people- language, clothing, buildings, music, Or how they make a living

  8. Place How define the place?

  9. Human Environment/ Interaction Wherever humans have lived or traveled, they have changed their environment. The environment influences the way people live. HOW? Adaptation

  11. Movement How people make contact with people in other places. People, ideas, information, and products are constantly moving. Examples: Telephones, computers, cars, trains, planes, satellites

  12. Region Areas that share common characteristics Can be small country, city or neighborhood Can be large Midwest, Rocky Mountains, Eastern Europe
