Custom Fabrication Whirling Dervish Project Schematics Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Power Supply RIT Computer Engineering Senior Design Project Dominic Giambo and Michael Mallery Fall 2007 The Whirling Dervish is a mechanically scanned LED display. It rotates a series of 8 LEDs, changing them many times per second to create a simulated image. Retinal persistence creates the illusion of a steady image. Display PCB Slip Ring The slip ring was custom built to bring power and ground to the rotating PCB through the rotating shaft. Graphite brushes were used to contact the copper on the slip ring to transfer power to the PCB.
