Alcohol is a drug • Alcohol is a drug which effects the central nervous system and in small amounts can seriously impair one’s driving skills and ability to react. • Alcohol is a depressant !!!!!!!!!
Alcohol has been around a long time • People have used alcohol since the beginning of history. • The first alcohol was fermented honey called mead • The Egyptians had breweries thousands of years ago to make wine. • Noah of the bible made wine.
The most abused drug • There are around 100 million users of alcohol of all ages. • The reasons given for using alcohol are socializing, peer pressure, anxiety, tension, and addiction.
LEGAL DRINKING AGE • .08 IS THE LEGAL AMOUNT OF ALCOHOL IN THE SYSTEM OF A PERSON 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER • THERE IS NO AMOUNT LEGAL FOR A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 21
ALCOHOLISM • Alcoholism occurs when a person becomes dependent on alcohol. • Alcoholics are not always the skid row bum or homeless person. • Most alcoholics live fairly normal lives, working and having families. • Alcoholism is a mental and physical addiction to ethanol and is considered a drug addiction and illness.

Drinking and Medications • One hundred and fifty medications react negatively with alcohol. • You risk the chance of serious damage to organs in the body and the risk of serious accidents if you take medications and drink alcohol
Alcohol effects the body • Drinking contributes to • Liver disease • Heart disease • Cancer • High blood pressure • Stroke • Pancreatitis
Alcohol effects your life • The more alcohol is used the greater the potential for problems and even family violence. Problems include • Violence, decreased productivity, tardiness or absence, and strained relationships with family, friends and co-workers. Law enforcement can become involved even jail or prison.
Facts about underage drinking • Almost half of teens who commit suicide are intoxicated. • Fourteen teenagers die daily in alcohol related accidents. • Four thousand teenagers die yearly in alcohol related car accidents.

You don’t have to drink to have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reasons kids say they drink
HOW DOES ALCOHOL AFFECT YOU • ALCOHOL AFFECTS EVERYONE DIFFERENTLY • YOU MAY BECOME VERY OUT GOING AND TALKATIVE AND ON THE OTHER HAND YOU MAY BECOME VERY SAD AND CRYING. SOME PEOPLE BECOME VERY VIOLENT AND ANGRY LASHING OUT AT OTHERS. WE ARE ALL AFFECTED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF OUR SIZE, MENTAL STATE, SOCIAL SETTING AND WHAT WE HAVE HAD TO EAT OR DRINK. MANY TIMES WHAT THEY DO OR SAY IS NOT APPARENT TO THE PERSON WHO IS INTOXICATED.
Good choices have good consequences, bad choices have bad consequences…the choices you make today can effect the rest of your life.
