  3. Some considerations as we go into the 09/10 UG Review An opportunity to question what we do, why we do it and how we do it. • Demographic changes decrease in number of 18 year olds by 2011 • Need to diversify income • The challenge to be both effective and efficient • Enable colleagues to focus time on scholarly activity and/or 3rd stream income • Adapt courses to match market demands • Enable widespread effective use of appropriate technologies • Consider what are the distinctive qualities of a Leedsmet graduate

  4. What will make the student experience more distinctive? • The introduction of new credit bearing experiences? (Volunteering, business networking, short work placements in industry) • New curriculum in disciplines such as globalisation, sustainability and ethics? • 2 year honours degree? • Encourage undergraduate progression onto PG • Free choice of university-wide modules? • International experience?

  5. To review an existing programme we need to: • Know as much as we can about it, including • How well the current course is working • What type of students are being taught and how they are being taught • The nature and quality of work produced by students • What students think of the course • How well they perform on it • Have conversations with professional bodies at the very early stages and distinguish requirements from suggestions • Be mindful of QAA subject benchmark statements as a guideline for course planning

  6. Process post review • Course Design • Aims and rationale • Learning outcomes - What should students be ale to DO to complete the course successfully? • Assessment - What should an appropriate assessment task be to achieve the LO(s) • NB Consider course design AND course operation.
