Henry Fuller Task Team What is it, who is on it, what do they do? FTBA Conference 2011
Henry Fuller Task Team The task team known as the Henry Fuller Task Team was formed around 1995 at the direction of former state Secretary of Transportation Ben Watts. He tasked Henry Fuller, Executive Program Coordinator, with forming a team composed of Contractors, Consultants, and FDOT personnel to tackle issues facing the construction program.
Henry Fuller Task Team FDOT had at the time meetings with contractors and had meetings with consultants but did not have a forum where all parties met together. These separate forums could inadvertently result in engineering problems for contracting industry or solving problems with contractors that presented problems in engineering.
Henry Fuller Task Team Members of the team are construction contractors from different parts of the state that perform various types of construction. Members of the team representing consultants are mostly from Engineering and Inspection.
Henry Fuller Task Team FDOT members on the team represent different levels within the Department from Operations. FDOT members range from Central Office (Chief Engineer and Director, Office of Construction), District Secretary, District Directors of Operations, and District Construction Engineers.

Henry Fuller Task Team • Dispelling some myths or misconceptions: • The meetings are not a retreat. Meetings have been held in D2 and D7 but most often at Coxwell Ranch.
Henry Fuller Task Team These meetings are work, work, work:
Henry Fuller Task Team Because of the setting usually taking place at Coxwell’s ranch, after the meeting concludes, it usually gives the team members a chance for some social interaction.
Henry Fuller Task Team For example, we’ve learned that one of the team members is a talented singer/guitarist:
Henry Fuller Task Team We’ve also learned that some members of the team are avid walkers, some are distance hikers. Other members are accomplished marksmen (occasional after hours skeet shooting for those wishing to participate).
Henry Fuller Task Team A unique feature of the Henry Fuller Task Team is the opportunity to learn more about members because of the location. The setting at John Coxwell’s ranch provides the team the time after the meeting to learn more about each other on a personal level.
Henry Fuller Task Team • Why is the team the Henry Fuller Task Team? I’m also told that Henry Fuller was a skilled facilitator that helped guide the dialogue at these meetings. So with his ability to help the different sides communicate with one another, the team became known as the Henry Fuller Task Team.
Henry Fuller Task Team Why is the team still called the Henry Fuller Task Team? From the inception of the team, it was known as this and the members have decided to honor Henry Fuller by keeping the name.
