  5. Fate of Germany • Big 3 meet in Yalta – Feb 1945 • Agree on the Yalta Pact • Germany will be divided into 4 zones • USA, France, Britain, USSR will each control a zone • Germany pays USSR for loss of life & property

  6. The Future… • Why had so many ordinary people in Germany accepted Hitler’s Final Solution? • How do we stop it from happening again? • Democracy = tolerance & peace • Germany & Japan rebuilt in American’s image

The United Nations • Wilson’s League of Nations had failed • A new stronger League needed to be created • United Nations (UN) – created October 1945 • 5 strongest nations have the power to ensure peace • USA, USSR, Britain, France, China • Have power to send troops to solve disputes • Power to help solve other world problems • Famine, Disease, improving education, refugee issues
