Angelico 1395 • Angelico was an early Italian Renissance Painter. • He painted halos in gold! • His real name was Guido di Pietro but his friends called him Fra Giovanni Angelico or Angelic Brother John • He was described by Vasari in his Lives of the Artists as having "a rare and perfect talent” • Some of his most famous works are the :

  3. Altarpiece for St. Marco’s in Florence This altarpiece was different from those before it. It showed the enthroned Madonna and child surrounded by saints. However it was not in a heavenly setting, instead it seemed normal. It was as if the group had naturally formed and was about to witness and converse with Mary and Jesus. This style is known as Sacred Conversations and became pretty popular

  4. Coronation of the Virgin An altar piece with a ton of gold leafing. You can see it at the Louvre in the Denon Wing! Just count all the halos!
