  8. The principles (6) Member States should organise appropriate training structures for interpreters and translators. The training should include, for example, language skills as well as training in criminal law and criminal procedure, police, court and prison practice. (7) This training should be provided before registration/accreditation of interpreters and translators. Member States should have a system of continuous professional development to allow interpreters and translators to keep their skills up to date. TRAFUT Antwerp

The principles RecommendationII: Training: • Member States should provide appropriate training both for new and already practising legal interpreters and translators: • Such training should lead to a nationally recognized professional certification and be accreditedby a recognized authority • Efforts should be made to develop equivalent training throughout the EUto ensure mutual trust and cooperation. The principles Recommendation III: • The Professional Code of Conduct and the Guidelines to Good Practice should be an integral part of the training RecommendationIV: • A national register of qualified legal interpreters should be kept, and the use of only registered legal interpreters made mandatory • The national registers should aim for EU consistency, thus allowing mutual access.
