What is Thermoregulation? • The ability of an organism to keep its body temperature with in a certain range when temperature surrounding is extremely different.
How temperature determines how well snakes thermoregulate ? • Physiology • Habitat selection • Predation
Feeding and body temperature • Field experiment done by Daniel D. Beck • Purpose of the study was to determine whether free-ranging rattlesnakes exhibit preference for higher body temperature (Tb’s) after feeding • If so to what degree to which they are able to maintain body temperature given in their environment
Digestion &thermoregulation • Example- Corn snakes • Objectives : to describe thermoregulatory behavior of digestion in corn snakes, to determine the efficiency in the digestion of corn snakes and the rate of digestion, and to analyze directly the effect of body temperature digestion efficiency and rate by manipulating body temperature during digestion
