Recap of Previous Lessons • Think back to when we discussed binary opposites. • Who are the most obvious binary opposites in “The Untouchables”? • In what way are they opposites? Therefore something dramatic/extreme must happen to Ness to drive him to violence and murder in order to achieve his aims. What do you think this is?

Key Scene – Duality in Ness’s Character • Watch the “Train Station Scene” again very closely. Remember we have already discussed how this is classic De Palma style. • Can you see any ways in which the duality of Ness’s character is symbolised or represented?
Symbolism in the Key Scene • Now – Strap yourself in and prepare to set your face to stunned. • We are going to consider the key scene as a succession of very short frames and examine a classic example of De Palma style.
