  1. Integrated language arts Challenge and high expectations for all students with support to help them get there. Mrs. Klein 10th year at LMS 7th year in 7th grade

  2. reading • MAIN FOCUS- NEWLY ADOPTED NATIONAL COMMON CORE STANDARDS • MAJOR CHANGES INCLUDE: • MORE DIFFICULT TEXT; BOTH SHORT AND LONG • INCREASE VOCABULARY –POWER WORDS • ABILITY TO WRITE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING • RESEARCH- BOTH SHORT AND LONG (ALL YEAR)

  3. writing • Types of writing: Persuasive (claim, data, warrant), Opinion, Informative, Narrative, Response essays • Begin the process in class, revise, edit. • Final draft is typed at home. The goal is to use word processing to create quality papers.

  4. Grammar and spelling • Grammar and Spelling will be interspersed with the writing. • Homework practice and quizzes.

  5. vocabulary • New words every few weeks- Power words, SAT words • New Words from the class novels

  6. ASSESSMENTS • FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Entrance slip, Exit Slip, pre-tests, class practice, discussions, reading questions, rough draft writing, Schoology responses, observations, etc. • SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: reading questions, assignments on Schoology, opinion papers, literary element analysis papers, essays, quizzes, tests, and student created projects.

  7. SCHOOLOGY • Technology will be a part of our learning environment. • Schoology –ILA course – login is the same as first class • https://olentangy.schoology.com/login • Use of first class for sending or printing documents, emailing questions to Mrs. Klein or other students. • Ebooks, Ipads, Ipods, etc.- Research

  8. Student responsibilities • Take an active role in his/her learning. • Don’t settle for status quo-give his/her best effort. • Be prepared for class- supplies, reading, homework completed • Be on time • Be respectful toward everyone and contribute to a positive learning environment.

  9. Gifted program • We collaborate with Candyce Switzer weekly throughout the year. • She is involved in our planning to ensure that we challenge the students. • You can contact Candyce directly concerning the program and the goals for the 7th grade students. • She will be in her room this evening – Room 114
