  4. LIFT Serving Rural, Low-Income, Aging and Disabled • Average of 37.36 people per square mile • Average People per square mile in California: 217.2 (670 in San Diego County) • Wisconsin Population: 5,601,640

  5. LIFT How did it all start? • In 2006, The Southwest Wisconsin Transit Team (SWTT) was formed to explore ways to collaborate and improve existing transportation services, employing a regional approach to the provision of transportation services for area residents.

  6. WisDOT awarded SWTT a New Freedom grant for 2008. SWTT hired a MM in February, and named the program LIFT Leadership in Innovative Flexible Transportation LIFT is housed and supported by the Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP)

  7. The common good… Sharing transportation is more than just a benefit to individuals. Coordination: Getting people places efficiently, appropriately, cost effectively People will lend a hand when presented with a specific need or challenge.

The Core Group • The Southwest Wisconsin Transit Team is comprised of representation from: • Grant County Center on Aging • Green County Human Services • Hodan Center • Iowa County Commission on Aging • Lafayette County Commission on Aging • Richland County Health & Human ServicesAging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) • Southwest Wisconsin Community Action Program • Southwest Opportunities Center • Southwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission • Wisconsin DVR • Wisconsin DOT

LIFT’s Model of Mobility Management Transportation Service Providers FundingAgencies Government and Nonprofit Training, Tech Assistance, Best Practices: WisDOT, UWR, CTAA, Easter Seals LIFT Consumers with Mobility Needs, Advisory Group, Partnerships/Core group One Call / One Stop Center Optimal Use of Transportation Resources Provider Contracts and Coordinated Billing Mobile Customers

  10. LIFT Structure and Framework All the pieces create a model of operation Model shows integration of funding sources Stresses importance of cooperation across agencies, groups and funding opportunities

  11. LIFT Locally Developed Human Service Public Transit Transportation PlanUpdate 2009-2013 facilitated by SWWRPC, WisDOT and LIFT mobility manager over 1000 invitations and follow up surveys distributed Update endorsed by all 5 counties, SWCAP, and other partners

Plan Priorities • Contract with common service providers • Continue with Mobility Management • Share Resources • Expand Volunteer Driver/Escort Programs • RideShare • Centralize Information • Improve Service Convenience • Allow Joint Purchasing • Consolidate Functions • Coordinate Dispatch • Provide Technical Training for Coordination Staff • Establish / Expand Taxi Subsidy Programs • Introduce Community Bus Routes

Initiatives • Continue to expand partnerships • Marketing directed at agencies, employers, commuters and providers • Contractual relationships with agencies and providers • Carry out priorities identified in 2008 Transportation Plan Update • Diverse, sustainable funding • Network with other mobility managers, bring out best practices and new ideas

  17. Vision • Contact and awareness between providers, commuters, consumers and agencies • Streamlining of communication and billing between providers and consumers • Advocacy for better and more numerous transportation options for everyone, especially transportation-disadvantaged
