Expository Writing • Exposition writing "explains" or "informs.“ • Most of the writing we do is expository. • When we do expository writing, we are exposing the reader to specific information.
Why do we need Expository Writing? • Any time you write, type, or text anybody, any information, you are using expository writing. • Examples: essay, research paper, report, manual
Persuasive Writing • Ever try to convince anyone of your point of view? • If you do any convincing verbally, that would be persuasive speaking. If you were to write those same words down, that would be persuasive writing.
When will you need Persuasive writing? • Any time, ever you need to write an essay or letter to convince people that your point of view is the right one. • Politicians • Writing a letter to the editor • Job Applications • Writing to request money from an organization
Narrative Writing • Narrative is storytelling • Doesn’t matter whether that story is fact or fiction. • This is a good spot for descriptive writing, it allows you to set the scene for the reader. • Examples: short story, novel, narrative poem, journal
Assignment • Now that we have learned the 3 types of writing I want you to practice with each type. • Pick out your favorite movie. • Got it? You will now write 3 paragraphs. • Write one that is Expository telling me what the movie is about. • Write one that is Persuasive telling me why I should watch your movie. • Write one that is Narrative describing your experience the first time you saw your favorite movie
