  3. 1. INTRODUCTION TO INFORM EVERY ICU MEMBERS ON ICU ENGLISH DAY NAMELY ‘THANK GOD IT’S THURSDAY!’ (TGIT)

The decision to have an all English Speaking Day was mooted in the MBJ Meeting held on the 7th of march 2007 The meeting agreed that a specific programme is needed to beef up the level of English proficiency amongst ICU members by mean of having more communication and interaction in English The idea was based upon the fact that English is the most widely used lingua franca in promoting the global development process 2. BACKGROUND

To inculcate constructive awareness, uplift self-confidence and enhance English proficiency amongst all ICU members; To enrich ICU members knowledge through the ability to attain and comprehend information from English reading materials; and To establish an integrated communication mean for the promotion of a corporate culture which emotionalize and mobilize the members toward achieving organizational excellence. 3. Objectives

  6. 4. PLAN OF ACTION:WHAT WE NEED TO DO ?

  7. WHO? All ICU Members Are Involved

  8. WHAT TO DO? To speak solely in English on Thursdays

  9. WHEN? Every Thursday from 8.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. Starting From 15th March 2007!

  10. WHERE? • Throughout ICU JPM, at: • - ICU HQ; • - ALL SDOs; • - BPPBPP; and • - PERDA

  11. **HOW? Everybody must speak English. The only language valid on that day is solely English. Any cross usage of languages is strictly prohibited! All internal communication including meetings and discussions should be in English. All communication via e-mail (ICU JPM Lotus Notes) should be composed in English; Each division/JPP/PPN/BPPBPP/PERDA is compulsorily required to send a simple English article to all ICU members by e-mail. The rotation schedule for every division/JPP/PPN/BPPBPP/PERDA will be informed by BKP; Read The New Straits Times (NST) on Thursdays (a copy of NST will be provided by BKP for all divisions in HQ). ** Terms of reference are subjected to change

  14. INTEGRATED PROGRAMMES Mass Awareness Print ads & Outdoor banners educate and promote TGIT Programme to the Staff Of ICU. PR Programs Media launches to gain more editorial write-ups for any ICU’s publications. Website Website to view details on new happenings. English Version of ICU Official Website.

  15. 6. Compliance MeasurementCommitment and compliance to all activities will be monitored closely by the assigned task force.
