Lyons Strategic Plan Looking Through the Lens of ESSA Student Academic Achievement Student Growth, Academic Progress, Graduation Rates, English Language Proficiency, Chronic Absenteeism, College, Career and Civic Readiness • Each month during teacher-leader meetings we will check on the Strategic Plan during our Early Release Wednesday • April: Teacher Leaders Review • May: Dr. Marla Iverson • June : Dr. Marla Iver • July: Revision and Completion of the Lyons Strategic Plan • August: Board of Education adoption of the Lyons Strategic Plan
Strategic Plan Goal: The district will improve the methods and accuracy of reporting absenteeism to align with the requirements of ESSA and to keep parents and guardians informed in a consistent and timely manner. ESSA Accountability Category: Absenteeism Action Steps: • During summer 2019, administration and tech staff will explore the capabilities/functions of School Tool to determine if we are using it to the fullest extent to meet our needs. • By July 31, 2019, the data coordinator will provide staff with a list of codes and reports for absenteeism types. There will also be a tardy button added to homeroom • By September 1, 2019, all reporters of absenteeism will have a working knowledge of the ESSA requirements and will be trained in the accurate coding of absenteeism, • The administration team will determine the best means for contacting parents and guardians about absences and a protocol for this communication will be established and agreed upon. This work may include changes in policy and the code of conduct. Key Staff have been trained in the coding procedures for attendance. Will be turn keying attendance information to staff on Opening Day
Strategic Plan Goal: Through the work of data teams, data analysis, teacher leaders, grade level teams and program evaluations, student achievement will increase across all grade levels and accountability groups. ESSA Accountability Category: Student Achievement Action Steps: • The Board of Education, staff and parents will be informed of the accountability measure related to ESSA including achievement, growth, and measurements of progress by fall, 2019. • The audit results (Needs assessment) provided by Generation Ready will be primary data sets used to improve literacy and student achievement across the district. • Staff will be given time and taught protocols for delving into data for the purpose of placement, interventions, and daily instruction including Personalized Learning • Staff will have access to baseline data and diagnostic test results for all students K-12 and set targets for individual student growth. Data has already been shared with all key stakeholders. When 3-8 ELA and Math Scores are available will be shared with all key stakeholders. Strategic Plan Goal: Graduation rates for all accountability groups will increase by 5 percent ESSA Accountability Category: Graduation Rate Action Steps: • A committee will be formed and will meet throughout the year to look at trend data related to graduation rate. • They will delve into student data and situations to determine why a student may not be on trajectory for graduation. • Parents and guardians will be informed as part of an early warning system when a student is in danger of not graduating. • Staff and stakeholders will develop a set of common beliefs about their role in helping students graduate and align policies and practices with the beliefs. MTSS, SST, Senior Class Meetings meeting monthly to identify potential non-completers 9-12 School Counselors
Strategic Plan Goal: Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members will understand, value, and support Cultural Responsiveness as indicated through students’ perception of inclusiveness and acceptance. ESSA Accountability Category: Cultural Responsiveness Action Steps: • Professional development on Cultural Responsiveness will be presented to staff. • Teachers will include culturally diverse instructional materials in their daily lessons. • Culturally responsive strategies will be used to include and welcome parents and guardians into family engagement. • Staff will become aware of implicit bias and work to manage it. Strategic Plan Goal: Staff, Families, Community, and Organizations will understand and support the essential competencies of Social and Emotional Learning. ESSA Accountability Category: Social and Emotional Learning Action Steps: • Administration will identify core components of Social and Emotional Learning • Administrators will identify cross over of the SEL components with existing programs and structures • The core competencies will be shared with staff, families, and community organizations in order to garner support and resources • Staff will receive training in SEL • The Wayne County Partnership for Strengthening Families will be asked to be part of the focus on SEL Professional Development and Implementation of Elementary Second Step, Catch( Physical Education Activities), Restorative Practices
