Board of Governors Comprised of 16 individuals (all Academy members) • President (elected) • President-elect (elected) • Vice president and program chair (elected) • Vice president-elect and program chair elect (elected) • Past president (elected) • Nine (9) representatives-at-large (elected) • Journal editor (appointed to represent all four journals) • AOM Executive Director / Secretary-Treasurer is an ex-officio member Divisions and interest groups assume a similar structure, and also include various division committees (e.g., curriculum; newsletter; doctoral consortium; faculty development; awards; membership)

How to navigate the AOM meeting First things first, you need to pick up your registration materials: • Conference registration begins at 8AM, Friday, August 12 • Registration location: San Antonio Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B • Express registration kiosks are available at AOM conference hotels (need access code) Browse through the Conference Exhibit Hall(Saturday – Monday, 8AM – 5PM, San Antonio Conference Center, Exhibit Hall) • Books/materials to assist you with your research • Books/textbooks to augment your teaching • Various software packages Use the computer kiosks to check the AOM message board and to gain internet access
How to navigate… (continued) Attend Professional Development Workshops (PDWs), paper sessions, symposia and caucuses that interest you • Locate sessions within the paper program or searchable online program: • http://annualmeeting.aomonline.org/2011/ • install the mobile app on your smartphone: AOM 2011 • Sign up for the eProgram tool for your laptop, smartphone or tablet • Feel free to attend all or part of a session (leave discreetly if a session doesn’t interest you) Attend division welcoming activities
How to navigate (continued) Attend AOM events • President’s Welcome Reception for New and International Members (Saturday, 7PM – 9PM, San Antonio Convention Center, room 214) • New and International Members’ Hospitality Suite (Friday – Tuesday, 8AM – 5PM, San Antonio Convention Center, room 211) • AOM Town Hall Meeting / Strategic Plan (Sunday, 3:30PM – 5PM, San Antonio Convention Center, Mission 103A) Attend division business meetings and receptions/social hours (Sunday and Monday evenings) Attend the Management Faculty of Color Association reception (Monday, 6:30 PM – 8PM, Grand Hyatt, Texas Ballroom B)
Navigation Notes If you do not feel comfortable going to an event or session on your own, tag along with someone: • a professor from your doctoral institution, • a Management Faculty of Color Association member • an experienced MDSA member Be sure to wear comfortable shoes Be a sponge!
How to get involved with AOMafter the meeting is over? • Join AOM divisions • at least one for major discipline • at least one for interest • Make sure to subscribe to division listserves • Use your membership to obtain paper and electronic copies of AOM journal articles • Volunteer to review submissions for upcoming AOM meetings (sign up within chosen divisions) • Volunteer to serve on division committees that encourage doctoral student involvement (e.g., membership; newsletter) • Volunteer to serve on Academy-wide committees and task forces Note: Be sure to balance your time wisely!
