To do… • Read D-31 • Copy the Challenge Question: “Explain how a seismograph is used to measure earthquakes.” • Vocab: • Seismograph: An instrument that measures and records the shaking during an earthquake. • Seismogram: The information recorded by a seismograph. • Richter Scale: A scale used to quantify the magnitude of an earthquake. Each increase of 1 on the scale has a shaking value 10 times larger than the previous number (logarithmic scale).
