C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E Highlights of Career and College Promise • Career & College Promise provides three pathways to help advance eligible students’ post-high school success: • College Transfer – Earn tuition-free course credits toward a four-year degree through North Carolina’s community colleges. Credit for all courses will transfer to all UNC institutions and many of NC’s independent colleges and universities. • Technical Career – Earn tuition-free course credits at an NC Community College toward an entry-level job credential, certificate or diploma in a technical career. • Cooperative Innovative High Schools (limited availability) – Begin earning tuition-free college credits as a high-school freshman by attending a Cooperative Innovative High School.

C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E Eligibility for College Transfer Pathways Eligibility: • Be a junior or senior. • weighted 3.0 GPA and maintain a 2.0 on college coursework after completing two courses. • Continue to make progress toward high school graduation. • Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an approved assessment or placement test (visit careercollegenc.org for details). • Select a program of study.
C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E Qualify for Transfer Classes • PSAT score of 47or higher in reading and math and a 45 in English • SAT score of 500 or higher in reading, math and English • ACT score of 21 or higher in reading and 22 or higher in math and 18 or higher in English • Pass the Accuplacer given on CPCC’s campus • 86 in sentence skill • 80 in reading • 55 in arithmetic • 75 in algebra • Students who have a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher that have taken 2 years of high school English with a grade of C or better and completed Algebra II with a grade of C or better may take the first math and English on a chosen pathway. Once they pass these classes with a C or better, they may take other classes at CPCC.

C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E Steps to Registration • See your CDC or guidance counselor. • Apply to CPCC. • Create your CPCC log-in and activate your CPCC email address • Take the Accuplacer test • Non-CMS students must complete the Career and College Promise Pathway Approval Form, available on our web site • Register for classes • Check your tuition-although tuition is free, some classes have an insurance fee. Failure to pay this fee can result in dropped classes. • Buy your books. • Pick up a parking permit-required for all campuses • Get your CPCC student identification card • Attend a mandatory orientation session for CCP (This step can be done any time after registering for classes.)

C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E SUBSEQUENT SEMESTERS • All Career and College Promise students will be required to submit paper work each semester that they plan to take classes. • Refer to CPCC’s web site for important deadlines and registration dates for each semester.
C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E FERPAFamily Educational Rights and Privacy Act • According to this federal law, instructors and College personnel cannot give out a student’s academic records, accommodations and disabilities to anyone other than the student, including the student’s parents.
C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E IMPORTANCE OF TRANSCRIPT • Drops: Classes can be dropped through the 10% date of the class and will not appear on the student's record. Classes dropped between the 10% and 35% date of the each course are withdrawals. • Withdrawals: A student who for any reason cannot complete a course must take the responsibility to formally withdraw in order to avoid a failing grade. To receive a “W” grade, a student must withdraw prior to the 35% date of the class. The last day to withdraw is printed on each course syllabus. • College Transcript: Remember that whatever grade you get will follow you. Your college transcript begins with your first CPCC course, and these grades will be part of your permanent college transcript.

For any student enrolled in a curriculum course that needs individual assistance in addition to that which they are receiving in the classroom, CPCC has caring qualified staff who are ready to help them learn. • The ALC is committed to helping students in three crucial areas: • Overcoming difficulties with academic coursework • Promotion of independent learning • Proactive endowment of students with skills necessary to promote academic and life-long learning success
C E N T R A L P I E D M O N T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E Student Disability Services • Provides academic accommodations and auxiliary aids/assistive technology to students with a documented disability. • Services provided include: • Classroom and testing accommodations • Sign language interpreting and communication access • Assistive technology • Disability Counseling and advocacy • Student must self-identify to the Disability Services office every semester. • Students must provide current and appropriate documentation. (DS will review your IEP but they may require additional information, such as a Psychological Evaluation). • Students are responsible for all class work. (Tutoring services maybe available through the Academic Learning Center, there is not Special Education in college).
