  1. Q3 Book Response - Conflict and Resolution Review the prompt FATPP (form, audience, topic, purpose, planning) Prewriting Paper Final – due next Wed Your response is worth 50 points. Write it well. Think it through carefully. There is a 5 point-per-day penalty for late submissions.

  2. The Prompt: This quarter your book response will focus on conflict; the problem in the story for the main character.Identify which type of conflict occurs within the storyand support your claim with evidence from the text by using specific scenes, dialogue, or events form the story. You must provide relevant information to explain the scene, and how it supports your thesis on conflict. Your response should be in the form of a well-written paragraph. It should have an obvious, identifiable thesis with adequate evidence and support using at least two quotes.

  4. Thesis Statement: For your Book Response: • Include title and author of your book • Identify the type of conflict man versus ______ Evidence and Support: - Use three scenes, dialogues, or events from the story that is an example of the conflict mentioned above.

Q3 Response: Conflict Sample Thesis Statements • Goodrich and HacketsDiary of Anne Frank portrays the conflict man verses man when Dussell’s arrival crowds the annex, when Anne’s behavior frustrates other characters, and when Mr. Van Daan acts greedy. • In Diary of Anne Frank by Goodrich and Hacket, Anne’s main conflict is man verses self as she struggles with her maturity, isolation, and fear.

  6. Format – Analytical Paragraph Thesis – the answer to the question The conflict in ____(title of the book)_____ by ____(author’s name)_____ is _(man)_ versus ___________. This is a basic thesis statement that would score an 8 on the rubric – it is identifiable. In order to make it concise and well worded add to it. Evidence and Explanation - There must be three places from your story, a scene, dialogue, or event that support your conflict. These three pieces of support/evidence MUST BE EXPLAINED. Evidence, Explanation Evidence, Explanation Evidence, Explanation Conclusion – Write a concluding sentence that wraps up your ideas. Restate thesis.
