Dr. Cook has been at DBU for over 28 years and Lion Dr. Weldon Estes has been a professor at DBU since 1969 and a Lion since 1970 had brought Dr. Cook several times to visit our Lions Club. Dallas Baptist University moved to Oak Cliff from Decatur in 1965. Their growth on the campus West of Loop 12 in Oak Cliff has reached 5470 students. The sports teams at DBU are part of a worldwide outreach ministry. They travel to many parts of the world and compete with the local teams there and visit and show Christ as their Savior to the people of those countries. Dr. Cook introduced Andrew DeStasio to talk about the relationship of DBU with Oak Cliff. All the Lions seemed to enjoy the positive impact to Oak Cliff by DBU. Immediate Past President Lion Iris Smith read the 2014-2015 nominations to serve in the leadership of our club for the third time. The floor was opened for and additional nominations. There was a motion to elect the slate of officers by acclimation and with no nay votes the election was completed. Brent Christopher, President & CEO – Communities Foundation of Texas Sunshine & Care Report Lion Nia McKay’s mother passed away. Lion Ralph McClendon is still recovering and has returned to Dallas and is in room 715 at StPaul’s Hospital. Lion Bobbie Smith is recovering from a car wreck and was at the meeting. Lion Rey Morey is in rehab at Parkland Rehab. Lion Helen Spears is now working at the Retirement Center where she is currently living.

Next Program: Brent Christopher – Communities Foundation As President and Chief Executive Officer of Communities Foundation of Texas, Brent Christopher leads a talented staff as the foundation works to enhance the experience and impact of charitable giving. Brent earned his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas, where he was a Robert S. Strauss Scholar and administrative editor of the Texas International Law Journal. He earned his master’s degree in political economy and political culture as a Rotary Foundation Scholar at the University of Nottingham in Nottingham, England, and his B.B.A. in public administration and economics from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Prior to joining Communities Foundation of Texas, Brent served as Director of Development for the giving programs at Children’s Medical Center Dallas during the hospital’s successful $150 million we Promise Campaign. Before his post with Children’s, he served as General Counsel and Vice President for Advancement at Dallas Baptist University. Earlier in his professional career, Brent practiced law at Cowles & Thompson, P.C., in Dallas, where he specialized in legal malpractice defense and product liability defense. Brent serves on the boards of directors for Safer Dallas Better Dallas and Passion for Children’s. He is chair of the Advisory Board of CF Insights, an initiative through the Community Foundations Leadership Team at the Council on Foundations and FSG to gather, analyze and share data with community foundations to improve their performance and sustainability. He also is a strategy committee member of the Alliance for Charitable Reform, which educates policymakers about philanthropy and the role it plays in communities. Among his other activities, Brent serves locally on the President’s Advisory Council for the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, where he also was an original member of the Brinker International Forum Board of Advisors. He is a member of the Crystal Charity Ball Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of Uplift Education, the Board of Advisors of Entrepreneurs for North Texas, the Advisory Council of the Center for Nonprofit Management, the Community Advisory Board of the Junior League of Dallas, the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development Executive Board at Southern Methodist University, the United Way Metropolitan Dallas Income Impact Council and the UNT Dallas 21st Century Commission. Brent is an active member of the Dallas Chapter of Young Presidents’ Organization and The Dallas Assembly, for which he served as president in 2010-11. He also is a former trustee of The Foundation at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Brent and his children live in Dallas. Guests This Week This week we had no guests to introduce. ns. ANNOUNCEMENTS Our meeting on April 30th will be to celebrate our 85th Anniversary of the Oak Cliff Lions Club will be in the Weiss Auditorium (our regular meeting room.) It will be Oak Cliff Lions Club Past Presidents day. We are expecting a large crowd, so come early and be seated and ready to start at 12 Noon. Lion PP Dave Braden (1967-68) is planning to attend. District 2-X1’s District Convention will be April 25-26. Lions University will be held June 14. Stay tuned for more details. Lion Frances Stinnett will be The Oak Cliff Lions Club Grass Roots honoree at the Grass Root Banquet during the District 2X-1 Convention. Make plans to attend the Saturday Night Grassroots banquet to honor Lion Frances and the other Lion from other Lions Clubs in the District.
