Respond to Requests for Information from UCEDDs and ADD • Respond to requests (more mundane than extraordinary) • Convene Experts • Orientation Menu Workgroup • Develop a menu of orientation opportunities for new UCEDD directors that support directors with different levels of familiarity to the network • Research Design Workgroup • Assist in the development of a research design to explore how universities are approaching the recruitment and selection of new UCEDD directors
7a.Orientation Menu Workgroup The Issue: Over the next 5 years, new UCEDD Directors will be recruited as current Directors retire. These directors will have varying levels of familiarity with the network The Project: Develop a menu of orientation opportunities and supports that AUCD could provide either directly or indirectly to support new UCEDD Directors with diverse needs. The Workgroup: Mike Benz, Leslie Cohen, Robin Hansen, David Johnson, Elise McMillan, Deb Spitalnik, Michael Wehmeyer The Strategy: To identify a variety of existing/develop new didactic, mentoring, and experiential opportunities to support the development of new UCEDD Directors. The End Products: The goal of this project is to generate a menu of orientation experiences that will help guide future TA efforts in leadership development.
7b. Research Design Workgroup The Issue: Over the next 5 years, a substantial number of new UCEDD Directors will be recruited as current Directors retire. The Project: To explore how universities are starting to approach the recruitment and selection of new UCEDD Directors and to determine the extent to which individuals currently in the UCEDD network have the credentials that universities are looking for. The Workgroup: Brent Askvig, Carl Calkins, Elizabeth Dykens, Michael Gamel-McCormick, Gloria Krahn, Sarah Rule, Zolinda Stoneman, Barbara Wheeler The Strategy: To develop a two phase research project. Phase I will be a brief survey of all the UCEDD Directors. Phase II will be in depth interviews with a small cross section of directors. The development of the interview questions to be informed by the results of the survey. The End Products: The goal of this project is to generate information that will help guide future TA efforts in leadership development; however the information may serve other purposes as well. The information might be used to create “profiles” of the different UCEDD contexts to assist Directors strategically plan for leadership transition.

Questions for Discussion: • How should we handle it when Centers have more than one UCEDD Director? • How should we handle it when there is a “Director on paper” and an Associate Director who largely provides the leadership of the UCEDD? • How should we define FY2007 Center budget? • Should we decline to provide salary survey information to Centers who do not contribute to the survey? • Should we continue to provide “comp” memos to Directors or should we just issue one report? • Do you have any problem with AUCD populating Carnegie classifications into the resulting dataset?
