  2. The colors of the German flag are black, red, and gold. The black on the flag means ‘determination’. The color red stands for bravery and strength. The gold is a symbol of generosity. Germany adopted this flag on May 23, 1949. The eagle, to the German tribes, was the bird of the god Odin, and even to the Romans it was revered as a symbol of the emperor and of invincibility. From then on its religious meaning, it came to be known as a mediaeval symbolism.

  3. Berlin is the capital of Germany. It is one of the sixteen states in Germany. It has a population of 3.4 million people, and is Germany’s largest city.

  4. Population The current population of Germany is about 81,471,834 people. It is ranked number sixteen in the World.

  5. Life Expectancy The life expectancy for a male living in Germany is 76 years of age, and for a female it is 82 years of age. Germany is ranked number 27 in the world for this category.

  6. Religion Germany has many different religions; 34 percent are Protestant, 34 percent are Roman Catholic, 4 percent are Muslims, and 28 percent are others. Originally, Protestant were any of the German princes that protested against the decision of the Diet of Speyer in 1529.

  7. Language The language spoken in Germany is German.   8. Holiday A holiday celebrated in Germany is Gedenktag des Attentats auf Hitler on July 20. This isn’t an officalholiday, but it is a day that is looked at. On July 20, 1944 an assassination was planned against Hitler but failed. A bomb was set by Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, but only injured the dictator a little (not even to kill him). Everyone who was apart of this was hanged. Today von Stauffenberg and the others are looked at for trying to end Nazi terror.

  9. Traditional recipe A traditional cookie in Germany is one called Springerle VI. In order to make 48 servings of this type of cookie, you would need four eggs, two cups of white sugar, one teaspoon of anise extract, four cups of cake flour, and one tablespoon of baking powder.

  10. Tourist attraction One tourist attraction in Germany is the Neuschwanstein Castle.
