Energy Crisis ? households depend on natural resources Low awareness of local population on sustainble use of natural resources State organizations are not able to fulfill their tasks of managing and developing natural resources Local effects of global climate change ? Degradation of natural resources threatens socio-economic development of the country

    6. Objective: To reduce the degradation of natural resources Reduction of pressure on biomass (Energy Efficiency) Increasing biomass production (Joint Forestry Management) Enhanced use of water on the household and community levels

    7. Thermal insulation of private houses (? technology standardized) Adaptation of energy effective heating and cooking stoves (?standardization) Solar water heaters(?standardization) Dissemination via market mechanisms(?implementation of concept on local production started) Dissemination via micro loans, given by local MLOs (?150 houses insulated, product documented by 02/10)

Idea: Due legal rights, local forest users motivated to contribute to the rehabilitation and development of forests Elements: contract, management plan, annual plan, JFM council, technical consultancy (?1100 ha under JFM) Investments in severly degraded plots (?7 km canals rehabilitated; fencing of tenant‘s plots supported)

    9. Water supply on household level ?ram pump ?treadle pump ?water harvesting technologies and reservoirs ?effective irrigation technologies ?dissemination via micro loans, provided by local MLOs Water user associations on community level (with help of partners)

Partner NGO „Nature Protection Team“ Approach: regulated use of wild ungulates enables protection, rehabilitation and development of populations: photo turism, hunting Under control of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Tajikistan local initiative groups are formed and organize the protection of populations Elaboration of management plans Joint monitoring of populations, conducted by local users, committee on environmental protection and scientists
