Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT)
Evaluated Task Task: Enter a Building and clear a room (Squad) 07-4-D9109 Conditions: Your Ground Assault Convoy has come under attack while passing the nearby village of Iskandaryia, and several vehicles have been disabled. This area has historically provided recruits for Insurgents. The village contains Former Regime Loyalists operating in 2 and 3 man teams. While in a MOUT environment, secure a defensive position and wait for friendly forces to arrive. Standard: Squad secures a foothold in a building, by killing, capturing, or forcing the withdrawal of the enemy forces. The squad minimizes noncombatant casualties and collateral damage (ROE dependant). The squad maintains a sufficient fighting force that can defeat the enemy’s counterattack and continue operations.

MOVEMENT PARALLEL TO BUILDINGS • Soldiers and small units may not always be able to use the inside of buildings as routes of advancement and must move on the outside of the buildings. • Units should use the following: • SMOKE • SUPPRESSIVE FIRES • COVER AND CONCEALMENT
MOVEMENT PARALLEL TO BUILDINGS (Cont.) • Soldiers move parallel to the side of the building with at least 12 inches of separation between himself and the wall to avoid the following: • RAT HOLES (small firing ports) • RICOCHETS (“Rabbit rounds”) • RUBBING OR BUMPING THE WALL

MOVEMENT AROUND CORNERS • SOLDIER LIES FLAT ON THE GROUND. • SOLDIER DOES NOT EXTEND HIS • WEAPON BEYOND THE CORNER • (“FLAGGING”). • SOLDIER ONLY EXPOSES HIS HEAD • AT GROUND LEVEL ENOUGH TO • PERMIT OBSERVATION.
MOVEMENT AROUND CORNERS (Cont.) PIE-ING METHOD • SOLDIER AIMS WEAPON AROUND • CORNER IN THE DIRECTION OF • TRAVEL. • SOLDIER WILL SIDE-STEP AROUND • IN THE CIRCULAR MOTION. • SOLDIER WILL USE THE MUZZLE OF • THE WEAPON AS THE PIVOT POINT.
