Committee Mission The College Outreach Committee assists Posts in: • Mentoring and building professional relationshipsbetween Post members and students majoring in engineering and related programs at local colleges and universities; • Introducing students to job opportunities in military engineering. 2012-2013 Goals • Increase interaction between Posts and Chapters • Increase Student and Chapter Workshop participation • Maintain current directories of Chapters, Post mentors, and faculty advisors & provide quarterly updates • Publish a Student Chapter “Guidance Manual” • Establish “indicators” for Chapter activity • Continue to grow the number of Chapters • Maintain an active Cmte website to share ideas with Student Chapters College Outreach Committee
2012-2013 Work Plan • Increase interaction between Posts and Chapters • Action – Publish a newsletter - 31 Sep12 • Published Oct 11 & Sep 12 – Next edition Spring 2013 • Increase Student and Chapter Workshop participation • Action – Increase Student Workshop participation - 25 Jan 13 • 2012 Student Leader Workshop (SLW) had 34 students • Next SLW is 24-26 Jan 13 in Phoenix, AZ ( 58 students) • 1st Student Chapter Workshop (SCW) (18 attendees & 9 schools) • 2nd Student Chapter Workshop (SCW) (18 attendees & 10 schools) • Maintain current directories of Chapters, Post mentors, and faculty advisors & provide quarterly updates • Action – Update directories – Jan 13 • Post to SAME website • Action – Reorganize committee membership - 2 Nov 12 College Outreach Committee
2012-2013 Work Plan • Publish a Student Chapter “Guidance Manual” • Action Item C – Publish “Guidance Manual” - 1 Mar 13 • Reviewed by SCW and SLW • Establish “indicators” for Chapter activity • Action – Committee to draft indicators - 27 Mar 13 • Solicited input from SCW and SLW • Continue to develop “workable” indicators • Continue to grow the number of Chapters • Action – Encourage joint student engineer groups, e.g., ASME, ASCE, etc • Continue to contact other national organization student POCs • Continue to promote inter-organization collaboration at local level • Maintain an active Cmte website to share ideas with Student Chapters College Outreach Committee
Chapter Metrics • Submit an annual report of chapter leadership and accomplishments • Participate in a Chapter-Post event that promotes mentoring, career development, career selection, uniformed service or similar • Participate in a multidisciplinary event, outreach or competition • Multidisciplinary includes multiple engineering disciplines and/or communications, international languages and any other discipline applied within the enterprise of engineering College Outreach Committee
