  1. Solving A System of Equations Melissa and Jesus December 18, 2013 7-8A

  2. Problem Situation A store receives a shipment of VCR’s and CD players. A shipment of 5 VCR’s and 4 CD players cost $1950. A shipment of 3 VCR’s and 6 CD players costs $2250. Find the cost of a VCR and the cost of a CD player.

  3. Define Variables M= cost of CD players J= cost of VCRs

  4. System of Equations 5J + 4M = 1950 3J + 6M = 2250

  5. Solution Method We are going to guess and check to find the solution.

  6. Steps of Solution We started guessing with 100 for J. 5 * 150 + 4 * 300=1950 3 * 150 + 6 * 300=2250

  7. Solution to the System of Equations (150, 300)

  8. Check of Solution 5 * 150 + 4 * 300=1950 ☺ 3 * 150 + 6 * 300=2250 ☺

  9. Solution in the Problem Situation • $150 is the cost of one of the VCRs and $300 is the cost of one of the CD players..
