How have colonization and industrialization of North America led to the mixture of cultures on the continent?. Many British colonists fled Europe due to religious persecution. This is a major reason why “Freedom of Religion” is stated in our Constitution.

  2. Many British colonists fled Europe due to religious persecution. This is a major reason why “Freedom of Religion” is stated in our Constitution

  3. Ministers of the colonies sought to convert the local native populations to Christianity.

  4. Estimates say there were between 7 – 18 million Native Americans in North America when the colonists first arrived

  5. Colonists from Spain, Great Britain, and France moved to North America in the beginning. • Many of these cultures ended up mixing with Native Americans. • The African culture was later introduced when slaves were brought into the country.

  6. With the advancement of industrialization in North America, there became a need for more workers Millions of immigrants came to the US in search of a better life (jobs, more money, more opportunities, freedom, etc.)

  7. The United States became the Melting Pot for cultures The US population tripled from 1900 to 2000.

  8. In 1850 2.2 million (10% of the population) were foreign born The immigrant population grew to 15% of the population in 1890 According to the US Census Bureau, in 2010 13% of the total US population were immigrants
