  3. Questions From Yesterday

  4. Passion profile activity • pas•sion (p2sh”….n)n. 1. A powerful emotion, such as love, joy, hatred, or anger. 2.a.Ardent love. 3.a. Boundless enthusiasm • Read the passion profiles and identify which one most accurately describes who you are as an educator. If several fit, choose the one that affects you the most. • Ask your colleagues questions and find the people who chose the same profile you did. • Get into small groups.

  5. Small group work: • Discuss in your groups what it is like to have this passion • Each person identify a student who has been affected by this profile and write in your journal • What have I done with this student? • What’s worked? What hasn’t • What else could I do? • What questions does this raise for me? • Talk as a group about the questions that teachers who share this passion are likely to have about their practice. • Share out whole group on your passions and what comments and questions you have.

  6. Digging deeper • In your Journals take a couple of minutes to write your personal definition of digging deeper as it relates to instruction, learning and assessment.

  10. Problem set 3 • Amber didn’t know what 7 x 5 equals, but she knew 5 x 5 = 25 and 2 x 5 = 10. Use drawings, words and/or equations to explain why Amber can add 25 and 10 to find what 7 x 5 equals. • Write four fractions that are all equal to 2 • Write a number that is greater than 1/5 and less that ¼. Place your number on a number line, be prepared to explain your thought process.

  11. Problem set 4 • On Monday, Joe walked ½ mile. On Tuesday, Joe walked ½ mile again. On Wednesday, Joe walked some more. Altogether Joe walked 2 ½ miles. How far did Joe walk on Wednesday? • A Plate of Cookies: • There were 28 cookies on a plate • Five children each ate one cookie • Two children each ate 3 cookies • One child ate 5 cookies • The rest of the children each ate two cookies • Then the plate was empty • How many children ate two cookies? • Sale Prices: • Max bought 2 items that were on sale • One item was 10% off • One item was 20% off • Max says he saved • 15% altogether A) Could Max be right? B) Could Max be wrong?
