  6. Tools for Success at LMHS • Come to school every day prepared to give 100% effort • Follow all school expectations for dress code, behavior, and participation in class • Select classes that challenge you to achieve your dreams

  7. Get Involved! • Get involved in school activities such as sports, clubs, academic, and service organizations

  8. What makes a typical day? • Block Scheduling • 4 classes per day • 90 minutes long • One semester (August to January or January to June) is equal to one full term / one full credit • Advisory (homeroom) once per week • Early bird bell schedule • First bell at 7:20 • Last bell at 2:30

  9. How important is it to earn credits? • It is ESSENTIAL to success! • Credits determine what grade you are in • Credits determine whether or not you may progress to the next level of classes • Credits determine if you may take dual enrollment classes at LSCC • Credits determine whether or not you will graduate

  10. How important is my GPA? • Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the second half of graduation • You must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate • Every class you take counts – including HS credits taken in middle school • Every D (1 point) or F (0 points) reduces your GPA and hurts your chance for a successful graduation • Honors and AP classes count more than regular!

  11. Review your Grade Level Course Requirements • Incoming 9th graders must take • The appropriate level of math (Algebra or higher) • Earth Science or Earth Science Honors • English 1 or English I Honors • HOPE (Health and PE combined) • Fine, Performing, or Practical Arts class or CTE • Other electives which MAY include Intensive Reading

  12. Review Your Graduation Requirements • By graduation, incoming 9th graders must have… • 24 total credits • 4 English credits • 4 Math credits including Algebra and Geometry • 3 Science credits including Biology • 3 Social Studies credits including American and World History as well as Government and Economics • 1 PE credit (HOPE)

  16. What is my focus now? • Read the enrollment brochure carefully. • Consider the type of classes that will take your education in the right direction for you • Complete the registration form: • Talk to your parents/guardians, teachers and guidance counselor about the courses that are best for you • Enroll in the 9th grade classes that are required for ALL 9th graders (math, earth space, English and HOPE) • Select other courses that meet your needs and interests

  17. Registration Forms • Complete the form with your parent/guardian • Have your parent / guardian sign it • Return the form to your current guidance counselor OR • Bring the form to Parent Night at LMHS

  18. Will I Get the Courses I Request? • The master schedule in a high school is based on the requests of the students. Choose carefully! • The Guidance Department makes every effort to place students in the classes they choose, but selections cannot be promised or guaranteed. • All classes must meet minimum and maximum class sizes – no classes too small or too big.

  19. I want YOU at Lake Minneola High School!

  20. Questions? • The Hawks are on the hill, where learning has no limits!!
