1. Preston School Board MeetingMarch 19, 2014Superintendent Report Mission : To provide all students with the academic and social knowledge and skills needed for life-long success in a changing world. Vision: Preston School District believes that in partnership with parents and the community our schools will provide appropriate opportunities for all learners to reach their academic and social potential in a safe and supportive environment.

2. 4 Day Week vs. 5 Day Week Cons 4 Day Week – Originally offered as a temporary measure. 4 Day Week – Some patrons perceive it as watering down education. 4 Day Week – Budget driven decision vs. student driven decision. Pros Other group of patrons like 4 day week. Test Scores have remained flat. Allows district not to run supplemental levy Unknown Budget: JFAC has approved budget, but it is not official yet. Insurance increase not announced, but likely 12-13%. Operational costs increasing (utilities, transportation, food services, etc.). Staffing concerns with IEP Student Aides.

3. BPA Nationals Competition BPA - $1200/student. Fundraisers to help offset costs. The following students are qualified for Nationals: Megan Steadman  (Event 1:  3D computer modeling -and- Event 2: Computer Animation Team) Ryan Barton  (Event 1: PC Servicing & Troubleshooting -and- Event 2: Computer Animation Team) Lexus Rawlings (Accounting) Bailee Wiley (Integrated Office) KarleighStricko (XHTML & CSS)

4. Good NewsIf you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Thank you to the donor paid for overdue lunch accounts for elementary students. Thank you to the donor paid for band uniforms. Elementary Reading scores increasing. Cheerleaders 1st at Districts, State competition this weekend. State Wrestlers – Keaton Keller & Tayson Read both took 3rd at State!

5. Department Report -LEP (Limited English Proficient) Program Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), Progress/ Growth, Attainment of Proficiency. 50 students being tested on Idaho English Language Assessment (IELA). Silvia Woodward administering these tests. May 2nd – Parent night for Spanish speaking families at Oakwood Elementary. 6. SBAC Parent Night April 9th, High School Library, 7:00 – 9:00 Explain how district will use SBAC and Common Core. Parents can take portion of SBAC in computer lab.

SEI Tec Charter School Update Charter School Board: (New Additions – Doug West & Terry Larsen) Programs (Health Occupations, Electronics, Business Applications) Field Trips: Electronicsstudents went to the college of Technology at ISU/Electronics program, EMTs went to the EMS convention in SLC, Health OCC/EMR students from all three schools went to ISU and BYU-Idaho to see several programs, the cadaver lab, and paramedic lab, ISU tour. 10. PHS Dual Credit Update 11 classes offered by PHS staff as adjunct professors 7 AP classes offered 43 dual credit classes offered 13 classes offered on IEN 31 Classes offered through Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) in our computer labs. ACT Prep Class (20+ Students, $25 student)
