Technology • Access the shared drive on our NAS server: • \\nas\IEP • Make sure that you have access to your students. • Do not attempt to modify or save anything IF the server complains that someone else already has the document open. If this problem persists. Let your supervisor know. • If you just want to read the document, you may open a read-only copy.
IEP NAS Folder • Open the department that your student is in. • There will be three folders for each student: • Archived files Old IEPs and related documents • Current files: The IEP, addendums, and progress reports that are currently in effect. • Drafts: The IEP and other documents that we are working on in anticipation of upcoming IEPs (not in effect, not signed).
PCT: Student Profile • Make sure the Student Profile section is complete (ECE/Elem only). Interview your student and get input from families.
PCT: Comm. Considerations/Language Plan • Complete a draft of the Individual Communication Consideration and Language Plan. (Review actual form)
PCT: District/State Testing • Complete the accommodations section for the district/state testing to the best of your ability. Look at other IEPs for appropriate accommodations or talk to other teachers.
PCT: Instructional Accommodations/Modifications • Add only the actual instructional accommodations/modifications that are unique to your student. In other words, if everyone gets this as a natural part of class, then this should not be an accommodation/modification.
Present Levels of Educational Performance • PCTs are responsible for completion of specific PLEP areas. • Sensory (vision)- just note if student wears glasses/does not wear glasses or seems to have vision issues, etc. Refer to appropriate service provider if there is more detail that is needed (Students with Ushers’ Syndrome, etc). • ASL (if student does not receive ASL classes/services) • Self-Advocacy • Social-Emotional (If student does not receive mental health services) • One week prior to the IEP, PCTs should make sure all PLEPs sections are completed. • More training on the PLEPs will happen next week.
Before the IEP and at the meeting • Make sure all portions of the IEP is completed at least one week before the IEP meeting. If something is missing, let your supervisor know right away. • Make sure you understand all portions of the IEP. • At the meeting, the PCT will be responsible for explaining the PCT sections, as well as the PLEPS and Goals from other areas. • Also come prepared to discuss any other concerns or ideas that you or other teachers may have.
What’s Next? • PLEPs and Goals! • Ask for help if you need it!
