  1. The Skeletal System By: Jakob Hearne and Ethan Campbell

  2. Organs • Bones, cartilage, tendons and ligaments are the organs that make up the Skeletal System.

  3. Functions • support provides structural support for the entire body • protection surrounds soft tissue- ex. ribs and sternum protect the heart and lungs, - skull protects the brain • movement skeletal muscle is attached to bone so it pulls on the bone when it contracts • mineral homeostasis stores calcium and phosphorus - minerals are released into the blood when needed • blood cell production red bone marrow produces red blood cells, white blood cells and other blood elements • storage of minerals and lipids(fats)-yellow marrow stores fat-(found in long bones)

  4. Interactions • The Skeletal System interacts with the Muscular System. Muscles connect to your skeleton and they contract and move the skeleton along. Your skeletal system is made up of cartilage and calcified bone that work together. They help the process of movement happen in a smoother manner. The calcified bones of your skeleton also work with the circulatory system. Marrow inside of your bones helps produce the cells inside of you blood. Both red blood cells and white blood cells are created in your bones. • Without the bones in your skeleton, we would be nothing but water-filled tissues.

  5. How it works • The skeletal system works to support your body. The skeletal system offers protection, support, blood cell formation, stores minerals and energy, and aids movement.
