  5. GriPhyN/iVDGL E/O Meetings UTB Spring 2002: first E/O meeting! HU Spring 2002: next E/O meeting … LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  6. UTB Linux cluster `Lobizon’ www.phys.utb.edu/beowulf UTB Fall 2001 Internet Router Warp.utb.edu (Firewall router) Lobizon.utb.edu (Server / Master) Matrix Switch DHCP/Image server 96 node cluster (1-24), (1-24) and (1-24), (1-24) Intel Pentium III, 812mhz, 512 RAM, 40Gb LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  7. UTB students UTB Summer 2002 • Research in LIGO data analysis (LDAS/LAL), grid computing (GriPhyN/iVDGL VDT), and numerical relativity (CACTUS). • Currently administered by 2 undergrad students, Jose’ Zamora and Sean Morriss and a grad student, Santiago Peña. • Fully grid enabled with the VDT, DOE certificates. • Next challenge: Internet2, new 64 nodes cluster • UTB goal: iVDGL/LIGO and Worldgrid testbed at SC2003. LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  8. NewsLetter 2002 SC 2002 Trillium Collaboration GriPhyN/PPDG/iVDGL E/O effort LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  9. Leveraging existing E/O programs Successful collaborations of E/O coordinator with EOT-PACI (Roscoe Giles & Scott Lathrop),SDSS Skyserver (Jordan Raddick) and PPDG (Ruth Pordes) leaders to link our E/O activities. • Examples: • Skyserver talk at SC2002 EOT-PACI meeting • Trillium Newsletter 2002 • Now joint E/O telecons Year 2002 … LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  10. Year 2003: Leveraging on other E/O programs • UTB PPDG, EOT-PACI, Skyserver • SKC Skyserver • HU QuarkNet LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  11. New Activities: more students! Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU): Proposal for a REU supplement from NSF to support 10 to 20 undergraduate students doing grid-related research during semesters or summer at several GriPhyN/iVDGL Institutions. In order to achieve this goal we need to know: • Mentors • Research Projects • Selection Procedures • Budgets E/O Collaboration Effort! • Interested mentoring Institutions: • Florida U (Paul Avery), • Indiana U (James Williams, John Hicks), • Fermilab (Ruth Pordes), • Chicago (Ian Foster, Tom Garritano), • UW Milwaukee (Bruce Allen), • UT Brownsville (Manuela Campanelli). At least 2 students per Institution! Spring 2003 goal! LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)

  12. New Activities: more linux clusters! • UTB: • A new NASA URC at UTB will give funds for a new 64-node Linux cluster. More students involved with grid-related research and possible connection with NASA grid effort. • SKC: • New 32-node Linux iVDGL cluster involving several CS and Physics professors and undergraduate students. Tim Olson plans to visit UTB in spring 2003. • HU: • A 4-node iVDGL Linux cluster has been constructed by several CS and physics undergraduate students. Keith Baker will organize a new E/O meeting in spring 2003. LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville)
