Cole Jaczko Period 5 Endangered Species Act of 1973 Introduced to the Senate in June 1973 and was signed into law by President Nixon on December 28,1973 Major Amendment Years: 1978, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1988 It is an international treaty with the help if the CITIES ActFunction: protect critically endangered species from extinction as a result of economic growth and development with inadequate care for the environment, destroying the habitats for animals.
It also focuses on repairing the destroyed habitats that have caused many animal species to be placed on the brink of extinction. The ESA is regulated by the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), in the Department of the Interior, and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries Service), in the Department of Commerce

Bald Eagle population increased from 417 to 11,040 in 2007 and has been removed from the list.
