  2. Overview of Workshop • Concept • Content • Synergies

  3. Original ETIS Concept ETIS: European Transport policy Information System

  4. Overview of Data Content “data should be complete and interoperable ” “a one stop shop for transport policy data”

  5. Overview of Data Types “suitable storage/retrieval systems for all necessary data types”

  6. Overview of Data Pedigree “in order to be complete, missing elements must be estimated.” “pedigree must be communicated clearly to the user.” “supported by exchange formats and meta data system.”

  7. Overview of ETISplus Process We are here. Goal: Continuity of ETIS

  8. Today’s Agenda • Networks (KIT) • Transport Flows (TRT, NEA) • Data Access (DEMIS) • Future of ETIS, discussion.

  9. Freight/Logistics Data (WP8) • Overview • International Freight Flows - trade • Freight Flows per mode – transport O/D • Input/Output Data – for generation/attraction • Multimodal Data – flows at interchanges • Logistics Data – distribution centres • Input O/D Matrices for TRANSTOOLS v3. WP8: ITC MKMetric NEA (Coord) OBET TML TNO UNIZA

  11. Future of ETIS: Synergies • Discussion

  12. ETIS has • A past • 2000 Database • A present • Current ETISplus, 2005 and 2010 • A future? 2015?

  13. Rationale for ETIS • Single, one-stop-shop thematic database. • Builds upon official statistical publications. • Harmonises data strictly and fills gaps. • Provides methodology and results for gap-filling. • Undertakes “do-once” manual data collection tasks. • Provides open data model and exchange formats. • Open system for research data publication. • Removes duplication of effort.

  14. ETIS in the past • Responded to the need for a transport database for policy analysis. • Collected data – mainly Western Europe. • Problem Areas: • No common data model. • Online Data Retrieval was . • However: • ETIS-BASE DATA IS STILL IN DEMAND. • EC STILL ANALYSES TRANSPORT NETWORKS. • THESE MODELS STILL NEED DATA.

  15. ETISplus – the present • ETISplus attempts to: • Unify the data elements into a common data model. • Provide a one-stop-shop portal for all data components. • Standardise the methodologies for gap filling. • Increase the content and scope. • ETISplus responds to: • New EC data initiatives, e.g. TENtec. • Data needs of TRANS-TOOLS v. 3 • ETISplus adds: • Formal validation process.

  16. ETIS – the future • In the future we will still need data like this. • Can ETISplus become a permanent production line? • Foundations Now Exist • Such assets can be re-used.
