  2. Balboas birth • Vasco Nunez de Balboa was the 16th century Spanish conquistador • He was born in 1475 in Jerez de los Caballeros • He was executed in early 1519 • He was Spanish governor of Darien

  3. Vasco traveled with hundreds of Spaniards and Indians to the gulf of Uraba to Darien Peninsula.

  5. Balboa’s Life He wasa famous explorer and wanted to be an Olympic fencing champion. Following the discovery of the new world by Christopher Columbus in 1492,Balboa joined an expedition to South America in 1501 . One year later Balboa found himself on the island of Hispaniola trying without success.

  6. Treason of the king • Sadly, Balboa was to live only a few more years. A jealous rival accused Balboa of treason to the king, and in 1519,he was tried and sentenced to death • Francisco Pizzaro is the one who was jealous and accused Balboa that of treason against the king. He was one Balboas friends and told the king that Balboa committed treason
