My Goal as your Teacher… *Learn Countries *Learn Cultures *See similarities in English & Spanish *See how many different people IN THE WORLD use Spanish *Get AWAY from the stereotypes of WHO speaks SPANISH! *Become passionate for another language and culture…
We’ll talk about… • Cultures • History • Geography • Music & Rhythm • Old Tall Tales • Wars • Immigration Issues • What PEOPLE speak Spanish • Where Spanish “came from” • The language as well ;)
Common Questions… • Will we have homework? • Am I expected to be fluent? • Do we have to speak Spanish in class? • Are YOU going to speak Spanish in class? • Will I write alot? • Will I get to learn about “other” countries besides Mexico? • Is it going to be hard?
I “REALLY” want to learn Spanish…What can “I” do? • Do ALL the work in class that is given. • Take EXTRA notes during class. • Speak as much Spanish as you possibly CAN! • Listen to Spanish music, radio, conversations • Watch Telemundo (even if it’s just to make fun of it) • Converse and practice with your Spanish speaking friends OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL • Challenge me as your teacher to provide you with more! • Keep a fun diary/journal/blog that is JUST for you!
Here’s a snapshot of this year… • You will occasionally have homework but it won’t be hard or stressful. It’s practice and you will probably get done in less than 8 minutes. • You will read almost EVERYDAY in class! • You will speak almost EVERYDAY in class! • You WILL be conversational if you participate in everything I have gave you. • You will be able to hold a conversation at “La Isla” or “Don Pedros” WOOO-HOOO!
Why get pumped about SPANISH! YOU CAN BE… *Interpreter/Translators (Judicial, Banks, Government Offices, Agriculture Workforce, ANYWHERE SPANISH IS USED!!!!!!) **Own your own Translating Business (On side or Big Business) *Become an insurance agent *Get an abroad job working in international affairs *State Work *You’ll find a job QUICK in college

A Little About Myself: • Born and grew up in Somerset, KY. • Moved to Lawrenceburg, KY when I was 10. • Graduated from Anderson County High School • Went to University of Kentucky for my undergrad. • Married my high school/college sweetheart, Brandon. • Have taught at Bryan Station High School & Scott County High School. • Had Brody last October 2013 • Taught at ACHS for two years & I LOVE IT!
A Little About My Past: • Grew up in a high poor/low mid socioeconomic household • Mom and dad have their high school diploma • First in my family to graduate college • First in my family to ever receive a Masters • Mom and dad had me in high school – Mom’s senior year • Used student loans to pay for college and money earned from my job • Come from a hard-working family, blue collar family • Was reminded everyday in order to achieve success, you have to go after it and work hard. Nothing worth having comes easy. Attending college WAS NOT an option, it was made mandatory! • My ability to speak Spanish is why I am successful today.
What I Like To Do For Fun: • Arts and Crafts • Anything UK…especially Basketball!!! • Thrifting – I LOVE re-creating old trinkets, furniture or any object that can be made prettier. • HOLIDAYS & SEASONS!!! • COUPONING! • Going to Sunday worship & attending Wednesday Bible Study • Anything to do with Church Activities!!! • Skiing in the winter at Paoli Peaks (when I’m not preggo) • Anytime spending time with Family!
