History of LinkedIn • In 2002, LinkedIn was created by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Jean-Luc Vaillannt, Eric Ly and Konstantin Guericke • On May 5, 2003, LinkedIn was officially launched • As of February 9, 2012, LinkedIn has more than 150 million members in over 200 countries and territories • Headquarters is located in Mountain View, California • Can be used in 17 different languages

How LinkedIn Can be Utilized • LinkedIn Jobs allows employers to announce opening within their organization • Network with former and current colleagues • Paid subscriptions services provide enhanced networking • Allows for best practices to be a shared on a global level amongst professional • Allows job seekers to connect with potential employers and apply to job openings

  10. History of Twitter • Founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey • Twitter was launched in July 2006 • Based our of San Francisco • Twitter has servers and offices are also in New York

What is Twitter? • Social Networking service and micro blogging site • Twitter provides real-time information sharing of stories, photos, ideas and news • Tweets allow people to share information • A tweet consists of no more than 140 characters in length • Allows people to receive update to date information • Businesses can use twitter to communicate with current and potential clients

  13. Twitter Language • @(Username) – At Reply – When referring to another individual on Twitter • RT @(Username) – Retweet – RT stands for retweet. A retweet is essentially a copy/paste of someone’s tweet that you think is interesting • # – Hashtag – The pound sign (#) is known as a hashtag. Hashtags are used when referring to a trend or event. This is done to assist others following the event or trend and will appear in the Twitter Search • Username, Handle -- A Twitter username is the same thing as a Twitter handle. One’s handle should contain fewer than 15 characters. Each Twitter username has a unique url. Example: http://twitter.com/username.

Twitter Language continued • Follow – Followers are people who are subscribing to someone’s tweets; however, the other person does not have to follow you • DM – Direct Message – A private message sent from one Twitter user to another when tweeting something lengthy • Fail Whale – Twitter is susceptible to downtime, and when the site goes down a cartoon image of a whale being carried by birds appears

Ways to Utilize Facebook • Creating a presence for your organization • Job seekers can learn more about an organization and its departments • Recruiters can find qualified professionals • Users include: their education, professional experience • Make status updates relevant to your business • Make sure your profile is public to share information with anyone searching for your organization

Background • Founded in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees • Currently owned by Google • YouTube allows billions of people to watch and share originally-created videos • Create a channel dedicated to various topics • Post and view video clips, TV clips, and music videos, and video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos. • Accepts videos formats: .AVI, .MKV, .MOV, .MP4, DivX, .FLV, and .ogg and .ogv

Flickr Background • Is an image hosting and video hosting website • Launched in February 2004 by Ludicorp • In 2005 it was acquired by Yahoo • As of March 2013 Flickr has 87 million registered members • Photos and videos can be accessed without an account • An account is needed to upload content onto the website • Apps create for the following operating systems: iOS, Android,PlayStation Vita,and Windows Phone, and mobile website.[10]
