1. How did the Industrial Revolution impact your country Economically? • Was the overall economic impact positive or negative? • A) Positive because it abolished slavery and the country grew rapidly.
What sorts of economic activities did your country engage in? • A) Factories: directed toward the production of soap and candles of tallow, snuff, spinning and weaving, foods, melting of iron and metals, wool and silk, denim.
Did your country emphasize production, or simply provide raw materials to other countries who turned them into products? • A) Production. For example, the Brazilian workers produced and harvested coffee beans. • What resources/ materials/ products/ did your country focus on producing during the Industrial Revolution? • A) Coffee, Sugar Cane, produced own clothing, equipment, food
Approximately when did your country begin to industrialize (was it fairly early on, or was it late to the party?) • A)1800’s-1880’s. They were late to the party. • How did the industrial revolution impact your country’s infrastructure (roads, rail lines, ports, cities and city services, etc.)? • A)Increased in urban services, transports, commerce banks, industries, etc.

How did the Industrial Revolution impact your country socially? • Did industrialization create new winners and losers in your country’s society? • A) Abolished slavery; large landowners preserved their social, political, and economic dominance despite abolition of both slavery and the monarchy. Planters united with their local political elite to block widespread reform of the nation's rigid social and economic system.
How did this affect families? • A) It helped family interactions by providing jobs. • Did Industrialization create any new social problems? • A) It created dominance by the husband. • Did it help solve, or at least lesson, any old social problems? • A) It abolished slavery, and made families grow closer.
3. How did the Industrial Revolution impact your country politically? • Did the industrial revolution increase the political power of existing leaders or work against them? • A) the government adopted an explicit policy of import-substitution industrialization.
Was your country more or less powerful and influential on the world stage as a result of the industrial revolution? • A) They gained more power after Industrial Revolution. More jobs were created, therefore, bringing in more financial power. • Did the industrial revolution help strengthen your country’s independence, or weaken it? • A) The country declared its independence from Portugal and became a constitutional monarchy.
