Research component - overview • Part of Project 4 • Budget: 250.000USD • Geographical focus: Acholi sub-region, (seven districts) • Human resources: 4 consultants, two contractors (Hurifo and Gulu University) • Management: UN RCO • Timeline: April 2011 – December 2012 • Objectives: focus on conflict drivers, catalytic effect, understanding of PB, reduce knowledge gap

  5. Mental health assessment – findings and rec. • Mental Health and peacebuilding in Acholiland. To love and to work, local understandings of mental health needs in NU. • Mental health issues rampant in Acholi • Spillovers on other protection areas (domestic and gender based violence) • Niche for long term planning and implementation • Demand for adequate health care systems • Hybrid models bridging formal and informal healing systems

Good Practices in land conflict resolution – findings and rec. • Good Practices in Land Conflict Resolution in Acholi Sub-region • Complementarity with Land Conflict Monitoring Tool • Confirmation and unexpected findings • Bridging statuatory and traditional mechanisms • Clarify ambguous role of LCI and LCII courts • Standardize existing administrative procedures • Increase research on land grabbing

  7. Achievements/Objectives • Preliminary findings presented at the Consultative Meeting for PRDP (27/10/11) • PRDPII SO1, PA5 District Land Administration; SO4 – PA13 Reintegration and Resettlement • Interest of other development actors is mobilised around land mattersSynergies

Ongoing trends and expected outcomes • Achieving catalytic effect • Findings of MH report and Good Practice s in land conflict transformation positively received by institutions, donor community and partners • Identify opportunities for longer term recovery programming • Stimulating information sharing among institutions and practitioners • Informing institutional decision making through technical advice

  9. Coming up: Research Conference • 4-5 April, Gulu • Gulu Uni, UN, RLP • Advocacy • Informing relevant stakeholders on the existing peacebuilding research in Northern Uganda • Highlight the role of Gulu University • Showcase the research work of the UN on peacebuilding • Resource mobilization
