  10. “Lucky Lin” (David)then won the $10 lottery.

  11. Tom Yaxley gave an update on the Football pool and noted our club is in 3rd place, with Frank Duff in the lead. David Lin said we are still signing up for Candy Day, which will go for 3 days, starting on Friday. Rich King and Paul Kunkel will be attending the State Convention in Charleston.

  12. Program – Sam McGrew introduced our speaker, Alex Dosier, the 2010 Chief Illiniwek XXXVIII. He graduated in May but is now a graduate Student at the University of Illinois. They are Native Americans of the Cherokee tribe. He was born near Fairfield and now lives in Ivesdale.

  13. Alex gave a presentation on “A Brief History of Chief Illiniwek.”

  14. Notice the background in all these slides The Chiefs, I through XXXVIII, have served from 1926-2013.

  15. Lester Leutwiler was the first Chief. The original idea in 1926 came from Lester who was an Eagle Scout. Lester went to a world scout Jamboree in Denmark and learned about the Indian dance. He brought back a dance that was based on an authentic one.

  16. The modern dance is significantly different but then the tradition is evolving and yet tries to honor the original tradition.

  17. Webber Borchers was the second Chief and the first to wear authentic regalia. He also rode a horse.

  18. Idelle Stith-Brooks was the first female and first Native American.

  19. Was also on the football team. Chief Fools Crow (left) visited during the 1981-1983 time, put his blessing on the Illiniwek and donated a new regalia made by the Indians.

  20. Dan Maloney, #XXXVI, was the last Chief to perform in 2006 in the Assembly Hall. Now the Chief is unofficial, but the Chief continues. Logan Ponce was Dan Maloney’s Assistant and danced the last dance at the Memorial Stadium. He became the first “Unofficial Chief”.

  21. Alex was the Chief to dance in 2010 at the “Last Dance.”

  22. Alex is the second Native American Chief. He can wear the regalia and attend the games. Alex now spends a lot of time talking to organizations and debating on radio. The Chief Lives, a website run by Tom Livingston, http://councilofchiefs.org is keeping the tradition alive. There is also an Honor the Chief Society. We have on good authority that the Chief will be appearing at the Volley Ball game on Friday. Also, American Indian Day. It is observed annually on the fourth Friday in September.

  23. Tail Twister – Tom Yaxley asked Frank Duff to carry the bucket, then fined Frank for trying to cheat on lottery;

  24. He fined David Lin for having won the lottery,

  25. and Fonda Bowden for having spilled cream at the coffee station.

  26. and then really messed up by fining Dave Hunter, our beloved Chatter Publisher, for his jokes.

  27. Splunk!!! Right to the gizzard… just as soon as he finished reading a joke about an Indian medicine man who helped some old white guy with his ED problem!
