“Will Your Anchor Hold…?” • Travel is dangerous, on the sea, or thru life. • “Altitude is a pilot’s best friend.” • Distance from shore is a mariner’s friend. • Stormy seas also have currents, rip tides. • The danger was extreme, especially in the dark. • What are our anchors?
The Word of God! • Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” • Song S-99, note the words • The word is instructive – gives information. • The word is corrective – illumines our lives (the good and the bad) • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – note cautions: 1:13; 2:14ff; 3:7; 4:2
The Love of God! • John 3:16ff – God has ample reason to condemn us all. • Jesus came to save. Why is that so hard to believe? • #267 – “Jesus loves me, this I know! • Let this be an anchor. • I John 4:18; Heb. 4:14-16
Family and Church • People bring us back to God. • Romans 16 • Oh how we hate to disappoint. • “Whatever you do that causes you to lose the respect of honorable people is a bad choice.” • We ALL disappoint. • Revelation 2-3 “overcome”.
Hope Is An Anchor • “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil” (Heb. 6:19). • “This” hope. • What does it take to make it real? • Obedience to the commands of the gospel.
