  3. Daily Anchors In Homes, Society and the Church • Husbands, Eph 5:23-29, 1 Pet 3:7

  4. What wives need from husbands • Personal faith • Bible student and scholar. • Source of manly strength, courage and comfort. • Leader in making hard decisions. • Protect the home from evil. • Protect the home from relatives. • Protect and wisely handle finances. • Kindness in words and actions. • Draw on your strength, have confidence in you, delight in coming to you. • Stability in your faith and conduct anchors her heart.

  5. Daily Anchors In Homes, Society and the Church • Husbands, Eph 5:23-29, Col 3:19, 1 Pet 3:7 • Fathers, 1 Cor 16:13, “act like men”

  6. Training children • Prov 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.(Context—father instructing his son) • Eph 6:4, And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. • Failing to be an anchor to a child results in a form of “child abuse”.

  7. “Child Abuse” • Society’s problem of domestic violence involving child abuse often arises from the conduct of wicked and immoral people. • A more “insidious” form of “child abuse” —parents teaching children not to believe and obey

  8. Believing and Obeying requires Anchoring • The heart of Christianity is faith and obedience. • Heb 11:6, But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God mustbelieve that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. • V 8, By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

  9. Teaching “not to believe” and “obey” • By failing to anchor in their children’s hearts what to believe and what to obey. • Eph 6:4, And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. • Col 3:21, Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

  10. “Provoking-Discouraging” • Provoke to wrath. “to exasperate, to anger with irritation because of injustice or needless severity. Unjust, improper, or unreasonable treatment breaks down the respect of children for their parents and blemishes their spirit of love within the family.” • Discouraged. “broken in spirit”

  11. Child Abuse by “Provoking-Discouraging” • Disobey—warn and threaten (holler) • Disobey again—warn and threaten (holler louder) • Disobey again—they obviously don’t believe the parents because they have not given the children reason to believe. • Then BAM! • Children are learningnot to believeandobey • Parents are not just allowing disobedience --They areteaching it! • They teach children to disobey --Then punish them when they do.

  12. Teaching obedience • Teaching immediate obedience prevents prevents this mounting frustration that leads many parents to physically abuse their children. • Eccl 8:11, Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. • Prov 13:24, He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly (early).

  13. Pain, A Marvelous Teacher

  14. Pain, A Marvelous Teacher • 1 Sam 3:13, For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them. • Painful discipline is necessary for three reasons • Anchors children in the right way and keeps them from harm. • Anchors children’s confidence in parents and their word. • Demonstrates love, Heb 12:5-11, I know my God loves me when he corrects me. What security!

  15. Solomon understood “anchoring” • Prov 13:24, He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. • 22:15, Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him. • 23:13-14, Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell. • 29:15, The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

  16. Fathers, you can change NOW! • Never too late. • Confess your failure to your wife. • As parents, confess your failure to your children. • Explain how it will be from now on and retrain yourself. • Then stick with the plan. • Children crave the stability of anchoring!

  17. Greatest Need in the World and the Church Today! • The greatest need today in the world and the church is godly men, husbands and fathers with the strength of leadership in serving the Lord to help anchor the souls of those who depend on them! • YOUNG MEN start now building that kind of strength.
